ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) A professional society that writes construction code, which is used for building pressure vessels.
ASEPTIC TANK Tank sterile sealed and steam locked to prevent ingress of biological agents.
BATCH-MIX TANK Vessel with agitation to prepare process batch.
BLENDER TANK Vessel with agitation to blend product.
BREW KETTLES Tank in which wort is brought to a boil and mixed with hops.
BRIGHT BEER TANKS Tank for storing beer prior to bottling or kegging. Sometimes called “Serving Tank.”
BUFFER TANK Tank that holds buffering solution.
CALANDRIA Tank designed for filtration-filter cartridges.
CARBON STEEL Mild Steel.
CIP FIXTURES Any fixture that has Clean-In-Place features. These fixtures include: sprayballs, dishes, and T-balls. These fixtures provide an effective way to sanitize and clean your tank without disassembling it.
CIPA-H (Clean-In-Place Agitator-Horizontal) CIPA provides an effective and efficient way to sanitize and clean horizontal agitators. No agitator disassembly required! These agitators save time and labor, reduce chance of damage to a tank, lower maintenance costs, and improve quality control.
COLUMNS Evaporation vessels.
CORROSION-RESISTANT Special characteristic of certain materials designed to prevent the material from being corroded away or worn away by chemical substances.
CRAFTSMANSHIP Manufacturing and field fabrication teams are made up of individual craftspeople with experience, knowledge, and skills involving the latest technologies in the industry.
CRN REGISTRATION (Canadian Registration Number) Applies to any pressure vessel shipped to Canada.
CUSTOM-BUILT HEADS Heads designed and fabricated using unique customer specifications. Each custom-built head is manufactured meeting customer standards and specifications to ensure quality and commitment to DCI's clients.
DESIGN Strategically plan with a purpose to construct or build according to certain specifications.
DIMPLE JACKETS A type of heat transfer surface custom designed to produce maximum efficiency and uniformity through single- or multi-zone controlled flow of heating or cooling media. Available in ammonia-Freon (AF) or water-glycol (WG) styles. Available in special alloys such as Inconel® and Hastelloy® for designs involving temperature extremes and thermal shocking.
DRYER Tank that removes moisture and vapors from products by heating and vacuum process.
DUAL-AGITATED MIX TANK Tank designed with two agitation systems to help stir and mix products. Provides continuous agitation in two separate areas to ensure proper mixing and product development. Dual-agitated mix tanks are ultra efficient for your high viscosity products requiring rapid mixing and uniform heating/cooling all in one design!
DYNAMIXER Tank designed to mix dry solids, semi-solids or liquids into a slurry or liquid product. This high speed mixer/blender may also be used to blend, disperse, reconstitute, dissolve, rehydrate, pre-break or rerun soluble solids, soluble pastes and liquids quickly, efficiently and completely.
DYNAMIXER PROCESSOR Tank that combines all the features of Dynamixer high speed mixer with the benefits of a cone bottom processing tanks. It can perform three separate process functions all in the same tank. Mixing dry or semisolids into a liquid, chopping and chipping solids, and heating and/or cooling the mixed batch.
ELECTROPOLISHING An electrochemical process for providing surface integrity beyond available conventional mechanical finishes. Surface imperfections are removed from stainless steel surfaces by anodic dissolution in an electrolyte solution with an imposed electrical current.
ENGINEERING Application of industry knowledge and industry leading technical sophistication to aid in the design and manufacturing of DCI components and equipment with superior quality standards.
EVAPORATORS Vessels designed to remove vapors from solids with heat.
FABRICATION Process of constructing and manufacturing.
FERMENTERS Vessels designed to ferment and control fermentation process.        
FIELD FABRICATION DCI Site-Fab is a specialty factory and on-site fabricator and erector of stainless steel and other alloy tanks, pressure vessels, evaporators, columns and equipment for use in the dairy, food, grain, ethanol, chemical, beverage, wine and brewing industries.
FIELD SERVICE DCI can bring the highest skill levels and up to date technology direct to your site. DCI provides 24 hour emergency repair services plus offers routine and preventative plant maintenance programs.
FIELD TANK FABRICATION DCI Site-Fab is a specialty factory and on-site fabricator and erector of stainless steel and other alloy tanks, pressure vessels, evaporators, columns and equipment for use in the dairy, food, grain, ethanol, chemical, beverage, wine and brewing industries.
FORMING Process of shaping and developing/arranging.
HASTELLOY® MATERIALS Nickel based alloy used in applications that require high resistance to corrosion.
HONEY MELTER Tank which uses hot water pipes or gridwork to remove (melt) honey from honeycombs.
HORIZONTAL AGITATOR ASSEMBLIES Agitator assemblies that mount to the side of a tank and extend horizontally into the tank. Designed for ease in maintenance.
HOT/COLD LIQUOR TANKS Water storage tanks.
HYDROFORMED FLANGED & DISHED HEADS Heads formed using water pressure. Available in capacities and specifications ranging from 16 gauge sheet through 3/8" plate material and sizes ranging from 12" through 156" diameter.
LAB / R & D VESSEL Small vessels used in product development.     
LAGERING TANKS Tank used for extended fermentation.
MACHINING Process of shaping and finishing using machine-operated tools.
MANWAYS Opening in tank that provides access to interior of tank. DCI offers a standard 16 x 20 side-entering style and a top atmospheric style, which seals from the center rather than the edges.
MASH AND LAUTER TUNS Tank in which grist (crushed barley) and hot water are mixed to produce mash.
MATERIAL/WELD FINISHES DCI offers a variety of material and weld finishes including: electropolish, as-welded, glass bead, cleaned, and a range of RA/grit finishes.
MICRO-BREWERY EQUIPMENT Equipment for a brewery of a size between brew-pubs and major brewing operations.
MIXER-AGITATOR Device designed to stir and mix various products at specific speeds.
MONEL® MATERIALS Metal composed primarily of nickel, cobalt, and copper. It is used because it has corrosion resistant capabilities and is very durable.
OTHER EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (OEM) A company who uses components from other companies to complete their own product.
POLISHING Process of shining or rubbing to remove flaws and imperfections.
PRESSURE VESSELS Process vessels designed for pressure and vacuum applications.
PROCESSOR Vessels that provide agitation, heat exchange and/or reaction to produce product. Includes variety of designs including cone bottom or flat bottom tanks.
PRODUCT CONTACT SURFACE FINISHES Vessel surfaces where product touches that require polish to allow adequate cleaning.
REACTOR TANK Process vessel that uses heat, pressure and/or vacuum to change a product condition.
REPLACEMENT PARTS Parts that require periodic change per user’s maintenance schedule.
ROUND HORIZONTAL STORAGE TANKS Tanks designed with advanced agitation for ultimate sanitation and mixing.        
SANITARY PIPING Interconnecting cleanable piping system between tanks.
SANITARY TANKS Vessels cleanable to sanitary standards (e.g. FDA, 3A USDA standards).
SEPARATOR Tank that separates solids from fluids through a skimming process.
SILO TANKS Tanks designed with advanced alcove assemblies, horizontal/vertical agitator assemblies, and optional accessories depending on product application. See also: Cleaning Options/DCI Upward Spray         
SILO TYPE STORAGE TANKS Simple vertical storage vessels with self-supporting bases meant to store milk, juice and other products.
STAINLESS STEEL PROCESSORS Vessels fabricated from stainless steel of various types that are compatible with products being processed.
STAMPED VESSELS Regulatory certified vessels (such as ASME-code stamped).
STEAMCHEST Evaporators.
STORAGE TANKS Simple vessels, vertical or horizontal, used for storage.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS Communication by electronic means. One of the most common types of telecommunication is e-mail.
TUBE BUNDLE Heat exchanger or evaporator array inside cylinder.
Upward Spray Optional silo tank cleaning system offered by DCI.  Performs all CIP (Clean-in-Place) operations without requiring access to the top of the tank.  System uses primary and secondary internal vent lines, eliminating need for insulation and heat tapes.  Design is currently available in sizes ranging up to 40,000 gallon silo tanks and is USDA accepted for use in 3-A silos tanks. 

VACUUM CHAMBER Vessel designed to remove air from products.
VALIDATION Pharmaceutical sanitary standard.
VAPOR DUCT Part of a calandria & separator system.
VAT (CHEESE) Horizontal vessel designed for cheese making process.
VERTICAL AGITATOR ASSEMBLIES Agitator assemblies that mount at the top of the tank and extend vertically into the tank. Designed to eliminate any take-apart couplings or assemblies in the product zone.
VIAL STOPPER WASHER A tank designed to efficiently wash stoppers and caps. The DCI vial stopper washer has no moving parts. Air movement suspends stoppers during the washing process. See Vial Stopper Washer brochure.
WFI TANK Water for Injection Tank.
WHEY CRYSTALLIZING TANKS A tank designed to maintain uniform temperatures and solids consistency throughout entire tank. The controllable crystal sizes are obtained by side and bottom sweep agitators.

             
WHIRLPOOLS Tank in which wort is separated from beer.

WORT BOILER Tank used to produce wort, which is a solution of sugars obtained from malt in brewing process.
